MEMORABLE ACQUAINTANCES

 

Through lucky coincidence, or even will, I am fortunate to have met, mostly on the fly, FAMOUS CONTEMPORARIES.  Next to the ones I have worked with in various events and films and theater – and who are mentioned there throughout this homepage – are further ones I am proud to have met in various occasions and locations throughout my life.
Disclaimer: the following `name dropping` is by far complete, thus I apologize for the ones possibly not mentioned.

The most memorable one is of course a two hours face-to-face conversation with my mentor and idol, filmmaker with six Oscars under his belt, BILLY WILDER, in Spring 1993 in his office in Beverly Hills.  (Through connections of my Hollywood-manager Mike Carazza from CRC)

With my first success in film, I wanted to know experienced – and famous – collegues.  Thus, from the age of 15, I went on to learn the Swiss film directors ROLF LYSSY and MARKUS IMHOF, with whose I was subsequently assisting (at Schweizermacher and Das Boot ist Voll, respectively), and to future Academy Award winner XAVIER KOLLER at a show in Swiss TV.

With HELMUTH DIETL, I had a conversation at the 1993-Oscars.

As an invitee at the premiere-party of HOOK in December 1991, I have met (from the distance…) its director STEVEN SPIELBERG, and the stars JULIA ROBERTS and BOB HOSKINS.

During the casting of PhonY  I had at least two memorable phone conversations – apart, of course, the one with legend BURT REYONOLDS:  One was of the lengthy and personal discussions were with TOM SIZEMORE (Saving Private Ryan) on the day after his 56th birthday, the other was with RUDY YOUNGBLOOD (Apocalypto).

Besides actors I have met during casting my films, I have briefly met up-close RICHARD DREYFUSS, ELIZABETH TAYLOR, TOM HANKS, CLAUDIA SCHIFFER, JEFF GOLDBLUM, JOHNNY DEPP, ROMAN POLANSKI

The arguably most successful Mexican singer JUAN GABRIEL was flirting (…) with me in Micky`s restaurant, North Hollywood, end 1990s.  When I saw him next, he was performing on the largest square in the World, the Zocalo in Mexico City, where he inaugurated the new Millenium in front of hundred thousands of spectators.

I did`discover` Swiss actor BEAT SCHLATTER in 1978 during the preparation for my film project KREBS! when he applied for a job as an… extra.

As a friend of actor Peter Nuesch,  - from the casting of KREBS! - I got to be a production assistant with the Klaus Kinski-starrer Jack the Ripper what was shot in Zurich in June 1976.
